Kenya Electricity Modernization Project

Project Background: Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited (KPLC) released a tender for the design, supply, and installation of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems to support the Kenya Electricity Modernization Project (KEMP). Specifically, the AMI systems will support revenue recovery and protection programs. KPLC received credit from the International Development Association (IDA) towards the cost of the KEMP, and the proceeds of this credit will be applied to eligible payments under the contract.

Bidding will be conducted through the International Competitive Bidding procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement of Goods, Works and Non-Consulting Services under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits & Grants by World Bank & Borrowers, published by the Bank in January 2011 (Revised July 2014, Procurement Guidelines).

Kenya — Tanzania Power Interconnection Project

Project Background: The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) now invites sealed bids from the qualified firms for the execution of the following works under this project. The major works to be carried out by the contractor shall comprise of but not be limited to the following:

  • Electrification of villages along the 400kV Kenya-Tanzania Interconnection Project. This part of the project consists of design, manufacture, test, supply, erection and commissioning of 33kV, 3 phase lines with different equipment such as re-closers, fuse cutout and distribution transformers etc.
  • Lot K2 has approximately 132km of 33 kV lines and about 50km of 400V to be constructed.
  • Also included are about six transformers of 25kVA, 14 transformers of 50kVA and five transformers of 100kVA to be installed and services lines and meters to about 7,000 customers.
